The Post's Jason Reed reports that Trent Williams is "encouraged" by his performance against the Giants last Sunday. Yes, this is the same game in which New York's Jason Pierre-Paul had 6 tackles (3 for a loss), 2 sacks and 1 QB hit. This is good?
“Week 1 went well for me,” Williams told Reed. “After watching the film and reviewing everything, I felt good.”
Williams went on to explain that at least one of the sacks was the result of miscommunication between himself and guard Kory Lichtensteiger.
While there's a big part of me that wonders if Williams might just be a little delusional, I also recognize the limitation on outside-looking-in analysis. Namely, I don't know what the assignments were.
I go by what I see, but there are times when I may criticize a player for something that wasn't actually his fault. In this case, I'll defer to Williams, who surely knows better than I what was supposed to happen on that play.
